Permanent Resident (PR) Card Renewal Services
Your Permanent Resident (PR) card is not just a piece of identification; it is your gateway to maintaining your residency status in Canada and ensuring seamless travel. If your PR card is already expired or about to expire, whether you are in Canada or abroad, we are here to help.
We offer a complete range of services to assist you in renewing your PR card, ensuring a smooth and stress-free process. Our services include:
For clients currently outside Canada with an expired PR card or planning to return soon, we provide tailored services. We can prepare your application in advance to align with your arrival in Canada, ensuring timely submission.
Renewing your PR card before it expires is essential to maintain your ability to travel freely and prove your permanent resident status. Without a valid PR card, re-entering Canada can be complicated, especially for those traveling by air. An expired PR card can also affect your access to certain benefits and services in Canada.
To renew your PR card, you must meet the residency obligations outlined under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Specifically, you are required to be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days within the last five years (Section 28 of IRPA).
However, there are exceptions to this requirement. Permanent Residents who have not been able to reside in Canada full-time may still qualify if they meet certain conditions. Some of these conditions include, but not limited to:
These are just some examples of exceptions. Other circumstances, such as accompanying a permanent resident spouse who is working for a Canadian business outside Canada, may also apply.
In certain and exceptional cases, PR cards may be renewed based on humanitarian grounds. We are specialized in assessing possible humanitarian grounds and preparing and submitting a strong submission to highlight the humanitarian factors. This is especially relevant for those who have not been able to comply with the residency obligations due to circumstances beyond their control, or in cases where the loss of PR status can lead to severe humanitarian hardship. If you think this applies to you, contact us as soon as possible to book a consultation, or use the following link to book your consultation and discuss your options: Book Your Consultation.
Each case is unique, and these exceptions are assessed on a case-by-case basis. We highly recommend scheduling a consultation to determine your eligibility under these exceptions and to receive personalized advice on your PR card renewal.
If your PR card is expired and you are outside Canada, you may need to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) to return to Canada. Our team can assist you in preparing and submitting a PRTD application to ensure you can travel back to Canada smoothly. Once in Canada, we will coordinate the submission of your PR card renewal application.
Our experienced team understands the complexities of PR card renewal and the importance of maintaining your residency status. We are committed to providing professional, efficient, and personalized services to meet your specific needs. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and take the next step toward renewing your PR card.
